Steve Jobs life and what it can mean for you
Steve Jobs life has impacted people in all sorts of ways. Since his death, there have been countless medias exposing everything aspect of his life. Ranging from extreme greatness, to a tyrant who was very difficult as a boss. But there was one particular article that caught my eye and blew me away. The title was “Steve Job was a jerk, good for him” and what surprised my even more was its a Forbes article. As I read it, I had all kind of thoughts running around my head. One that stuck out, was how could someone say “he deserved to die” after all Jobs has done for humanity?
This is the reality of it…
It doesn’t matter what people write, say or believe about Steve Jobs, what does matter is what you believe. Do you see him as a genius that changed the entire computer, music and phone industry? A rich jerk, like all successful businessmen? A tyrant: because he demanded perfection? Or a man, who was adopted, dropped out of college, followed his heart and vision and changed the world?
Why is it important to you?
The reason these questions are crucial is because they give us insight into who we are. See our lives are a reflection of who we are. And our thoughts define our destiny. I know this sounds like psychobabble but by the time you are done reading this, it might allow you to have the paradigm shift that will change everything for you.
Here is an example of what I mean
I grew up in a very poor family, which taught me rich people where bad. They were selfish, not to be trusted and stepped on people. As like all children, I wanted to be accepted by my parents, so I took on those beliefs. My parents thought they were victims of circumstances and were destined to worry about money the rest of the lives. Of course, when I started to become successful I would sabotage it. Then one day I had a break through that changed my relationship with money forever. See I was becoming the person my parents despised and I realized money was always more important then me. At least, this was the excuse they used to justify their behavior. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard “we don’t have the money”
How do you think this effected success?
Well I use to think it didn’t have anything to do with it, until I was exposed to a course that made me look at my relationship with money. See, people aren’t broke because of the economy; they are broke because of their philosophy of money. I am living proof.
Now I have laid the foundation, lets get real.
When I heard Steve Jobs passed, or when anyone who has made a difference in the world passes, I start to question what is going to be my legacy. I would encourage you to do the same. How do you want to be remembered? You can choose to see Steve Jobs like the man that wrote the article “Good for Him” or you can see the greatness he represents. Which ever you choose is going to define your life. If you want to be successful, study what successful people do and emulate it.
Don’t deny what you were created for…
I would encourage you to listen to Steve Jobs Stanford Commencement Address. Here is a man who redesigned how this world operates. And yet, he was adopted, dropped out of college, fired from the company he created and still built an eco system. This is what legends do. When he was fired, he purchased two companies, Next Technology and Pixar. Both of which weren’t worth much at the time. And because he was such a visionary and loved to tell stories he went on to create one of the most successful animation movies ever “Toy Story”. Then turned around and sold Pixar to Disney for 7.4 billion dollars.
What did his legacy mean to you?
Was Steve Jobs a perfect man? Is anyone? He was a man that was rejected a birth and through out his life and still overcame. Because he loved what he did. He lived by no one else’s rules. He wanted to take complicated products and make them simple. This is what drove him to work 100 hour weeks.
This is his greatest achievement to this world
He was a man who reinvented products and marketed them in a way, people didn’t want them, they felt they couldn’t live with out the product. To be successful in marketing, you have to find a niche and provide a solution to a problem. He created the niche in three of the biggest industries in the world and dominated. His life represents what any one single person can do, is how I chose to see his legacy. He lived his motto, “Live hungry and Live Foolish.” What is your motto for life?
I would love to hear your thoughts on what Steve Jobs life meant to you and then pass this message on.
Wishing you success,

I think when a person leaves the world a better place than they found it, he or she can be proud of that fact.
Most of us seem to be in it for what we can get out of it.
PS.
Like yourself Jeff, I grew up poor and it took me the longest time to realize that my mentality was shaping my earning potential. It’s still something I struggle with.
I’ve noticed I’ll buy all the newest/coolest stuff, and then one day I’ll sell it, give it away for no other reason than I’m worried I’ll lose it somehow!

Great post Jeff. We can learn life lesson from Steve Jobs and thank you for sharing yours. Poverty mindset is a killer. We can’t control the circumstance we have but we can control our thoughts and the thoughts will produce actions that change the circumstance. Steve Jobs proves that success mindset can change the circumstance.

Hello Jeff,
What a thoughtful, personal post. Thank you for sharing. It is very interesting to hear of your relationship with money and how it has effected your success. Something for us all the think about I’m sure.
I, too, have been thinking about what I want my business legacy to be – my overall business mission rather than the simple goal to make money. I want to leave the world and my local community with something ‘real’ as I’m sure many others wish to do as well. I even wrote a post on this recently.
Thanks again,

Thank you for commenting. Life is about continually discovering who we are.
I agree a legacy cannot be about money or we will be disappointed. I don’t think Jobs did it for money. It was his purpose.
And there are a lot of people who wish to make a difference and there is a big difference between wishing and doing. Living is finding our potential

Considering a man that pays himself only $1 a year and manages to handle a very important job with an upbeat attitude tells us a lot about him. Another thing I admire about Steve Jobs is that he is constantly thinking about the customer first and working backwards. He wants to improve the customer experience. so he imagines a concept first and then works on creating the technology to build his concept. So many other companies do this process backwards, which is why we have such few innovations these days.

Hi Jeff,
My friend this was really an awesome post.
You put heart into it
Steve Jobs was definitely one of greatest men of all times. Not because he had money or the products he created..but I think the standards and values he offered through his example are more important.
I love this line: Don’t deny what you were created for…
Wonderful! We are not created to reach perfection but to grow and create the best versions of ourself. Steve managed to do that.
It’s easier to deny, judge and point the finger to a person..just open the tv or the newspaper and bang..in your face.
The challenge is to recongnize and appreciate greatness. Too many people think that they’re mean on the inside because of their desires(being rich and powerful, being happy everyday etc).
Fortunately with leaders like Steve we evolve little by little.
Thanks for sharing your insights. Gotta share this!
Cheers,

Hi Jeff, wow I would have never thought Steve Jobs was a jerk! With that said, who cares. I am sure it’s only one persons opinion. In any event, as you say, just because he was a visionary, and demanded perfection…. so what. Good for him.
It seems to me he could turn anything to gold. I believe anyone can. That’s what I want to do.
Although I am not techy (as he is)… we can all find something to do and make it shine and attract the people who want what we have.
I want to leave a legacy for my kids more than anything. I want them to have to guts and the confidence to follow their dreams… no matter what they are.

Jeff,
If you noticed most success people in history that made a difference, where not understood by most. Even their peers questioned their thinking.
One good example was Henry Ford. They took him to court and tried to take his business from him.
Because they just didn’t understand his thinking. Their mind sets and ways where every much different for that of Henry’s
And most great and successful people are, which in my opinion is why they succeed when others fail.
also it’s why they blaze the paths that change the futures of others.
And of course in doing so there is always those who disagree with them and have something bad to say.
But I believe most see the good they have left behind and really don’t care about what the few have to say.
Most of them are just trying to get attention and draw the light way, from those that deserve it.

Hi Jeff! A blessed Sunday to you! One thing I have learned about Steve Jobs is to think of anything out of the box, explore and set your mind to it and he doesn’t seem to care what others may say, he only listen to the dictates of his heart. That should be what we are. We don’t have to care what other may say, life is to short to let other people dictate our life. God gave us the free will to do something good and great with our life..so let us go on and make something out of it.

I love the example that you share from your childhood. It is a scientific fact that most of our limiting beliefs are established between birth and age 8.
